ECONOMIST IBRAHIM SHIKAKI AT THE IUC!

Following the resignation of Professor Joseph Halevi, from 2025 the course of Economic Theories for the PhD Preparatory Program will be offered by Professor Ibrahim Shikaki. Both Halevi and Shikaki come from the troubled land of Palestine.

An IUC Alumnus, Professor Shikaki teaches Economics at Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut. Ibrahim earned his PhD in Economics from the New School for Social Research, New York, in 2019, after having worked with local and international institutions conducting economic and policy research in Palestine.

His research revolves around macroeconomics, distribution and inequality, heterodox growth models and political economy. He is particularly interested in identifying and rectifying the shortcomings of macroeconomic analysis when studying the diverse political, social and institutional context of developing countries.

For 15 years, from 2009 to 2024, Professor Joseph Halevi has been a fundamental presence in the IUC academic community - always giving a lucid contribution of analysis to our debates. To Joseph, now an IUC Distinguished Professor Emeritus, all the warmest wishes of the IUC colleagues, alumni, students, and many friends!
