Preparatory Doctoral School

with the award of a Master of Science (M.Sc.) research degree in Comparative Law, Economics, and Finance

  • The Preppy Doc School in Comparative Law, Economics, and Finance is the IUC’s pioneering postgraduate program. 

  • It aims to nurture a sophisticated appreciation of the institutional foundations of global capitalism: how they are consolidated in legal, economic, and financial practice, and how they are susceptible to resistance, hacking, contestation, and reform.

  • This vision translates into an approach where a plurality of voices can be heard: from the global North and the Global South, from scholars as well as practitioners, from lawyers alongside critical economists, philosophers, sociologists, and anthropologists, from analytical and deconstructive perspectives in tandem with holistic and generative visions.

  • The Preppy Doc School program lasts 12 months.

  • Its curriculum reflects the plural and comparative focus distinctive of the IUC approach, and is enriched by a unique clinical component.

  • The program is updated from year to year, in order to keep abreast with the latest developments in the social sciences and the humanities.

  • Successful students will be awarded an M.Sc. research degree in Comparative Law, Economics and Finance (not valid in the ECTS scheme).

  • A discretionary second year with an extended research requirement can be offered to  Preppy Doc students subject to performance in their first year, and available funding opportunities.

  • Preppy Doc students come from a variety of different backgrounds. While many of them have a legal background, a first law degree is not mandatory.
